In November 2014, The Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro unveiled plans for the new Carolyn & Maurice LeBauer Park located in downtown Greensboro. This exciting, new community park is expected to open in August 2016. The park will feature modern art, a 20,000 square foot children’s playground, a performance lawn, and much more!
Dance Project is particularly excited about this addition to the downtown community because we are looking forward to taking dance to the park! We’ll be expanding our offerings to take advantage of the community park with a new initiative that features outdoor dance classes and discussions with a variety of dance artists. As a community-based organization, we pride ourselves on making dance accessible for all ages and abilities. We happily invite you to take a look at a few of our opportunities set to launch this summer–there’s something for everyone!
Adult Dance Classes: Dance classes for adults are a rarity in the dance world and we are proud to offer a large selection of classes for the 18+ dancer regardless of experience. We are excited to present fun and welcoming adult dance classes like hip hop, jazz, musical theater, and much more in the park! This class will take place the first Wednesday of each month from 6-6:45pm.
Intergenerational Creative Movement Class: This innovative class invites people of all ages to learn how to express themselves through movement– no dance experience required! Intergenerational Creative Movement is an activity for the whole family to enjoy while unleashing each person’s creative potential. It’s a fun and stimulating way to get moving, relieve stress, and connect with yourself and others while trying something new! This class will take place the second Tuesday of each month from 10:30am-11:15am.
Artist Talks: Artists talks are intended to give listeners a behind-the-scenes look at the rehearsal process, find out more about what goes into making a dance, and dive into the mind of an artist. Featured artists include dancers performing with the North Carolina Dance Festival, members of the Van Dyke Dance Group, and other professional dance artists and choreographers working with the Dance Project. These discussions are a sure-fire way to gain insight and inspiration from accomplished dance artists as well as to expand one’s knowledge and creative capacity surrounding a variety of dance styles and perspectives. This event will take place the third Saturday of each month from 2:15pm-3:15pm
We are thrilled about our offerings in LeBauer Park and hope that you are as well! In addition to these ongoing programs, Dance Project has scheduled various special events to take place in LeBauer Park in September as a part of Greensboro’s 17Days Cultural Arts Festival. Stay tuned for more details and we look forward to seeing you in the park!
