Van Dyke Dance Group Performance
October 6 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
The Van Dyke Dance Group performs the repertory of choreographer Jan Van Dyke, known for her rhythmic precision and visual design. The company will perform dances arranged specifically for the gallery space.
*Parents: The exhibit in the gallery may not be suitable for younger children; please preview the exhibit or use your best judgment about bringing younger children.
Three dances will be performed. “Luna” (1983) is an abstract, expressive solo inspired by the moon and set to piano music by George Winston. The dance will be presented in the gallery as two solos in one space, performed by Anne Morris and Laura McDuffee. “Long Goodbye” (1998), a duet performed by Virginia Freeman Dupont and Katherine Weaver, is a lyrical and intimate relationship inspired by memories of traveling, leaving, and always having to say goodbye. The group dance, “Woof” (1983) is a quartet that merges gesture, intricate footwork, and multiple rhythmic movement phrases in a post-punk setting. The quartet is performed by Virginia Freeman Dupont, Lauren Joyner, Kelly Swindell, and Katherine Weaver.
