NCDF Announces 2016 Touring Artists!

For Immediate Release–The NC Dance Festival (NCDF) announces the featured artists and dates for the Festival’s 26th season, kicking off in September 2016!

Each year, the NC Dance Festival brings professional modern and contemporary dance choreography from NC artists to audiences across the state. A panel of NCDF adjudicators selects 5 NC-based professional choreographers through a blind adjudication process to participate in the annual NCDF statewide tour.

The artists selected for 2016 are:

Renay Aumiller Dances (Durham)

E.E. Balcos (Charlotte)

Lindsey Kelley Brewer (Asheville)

Kristi Vincent Johnson (Durham)

Eric Mullis (Charlotte)

Season Performance Dates:

Raleigh * September 10, 2016

Boone * October 28-29, 2016

Greensboro * November 12, 2016

Local artists from each of these cities will perform in concert with the touring choreographers, and the visiting choreographers will teach and perform throughout the communities associated with each Festival weekend. Get to know these artists through our series of outreach activities, including pre- and post-show talks, free community artist talks, and more.

New initiative: In an effort to support the creation of new choreography by NC artists, the NCDF is partnering with the NC Dance Alliance (NCDA) to offer the NCDA/NCDF New Works Award. This year’s inaugural New Works artist is Sarah Council of Charlotte. Council’s work in progress “Dislocate,” inspired by the experiences of international refugee families relocated to Charlotte, will be presented for feedback and development at the NCDA Dance Swap in Raleigh on April 3. The finished work will premiere at the Raleigh NC Dance Festival performance in September.

As the season approaches, more details about all classes, events, and performances will be announced and can be found at www.danceproject.org.
