Our Student Performance Companies bring free performances into the community, giving dance students opportunities to connect with their communities and to build a unique set of skills as part of their dance training. Our Student Performance Company is made up of 20-25 students ages 7 through adult. These dancers are students in our community studio, the School at City Arts, who attend a weekly rehearsal in which they learn and practice choreography to perform. This program is offered half-price to students taking at least two technique classes per week (most of the currently participating students are taking enough other class that they do not pay for Performance Company). In addition, students do not pay costume, choreography, or performance fees to participate, setting our program apart from most other dance studios.
Recent performance sites include retirement communities, a children’s performance accompanied by a live orchestra, an elementary school, a community arts center, and our annual student showcase. Through these performances, our Student Performance Company extends the joy of dance to the Greensboro community, and increases their skill, dedication, and confidence in dance performance.
How to be a part of our Student Performance Companies:
We believe that performance helps both the dancers and the audience members grow. Our Student Performance Companies provide students with multiple performance opportunities throughout the year, and train them to learn choreography and adapt to various performance settings. Most of our performances throughout the community are free to the public, providing the magic of dance to all.
We currently have Junior (ages 7-12), Teen (ages 13-18) and Adult (ages 18+) performance companies. Each group rehearses for 45 minutes on Tuesday afternoon or evenings each week. *please refer to the Fall schedule for exact times and note that these times will not change for the Spring semester.
The goal of our performance company is to allow our dancers to have performance experience in a non-competitive environment while sharing dance with our community! The performance companies do one community service project and 4-6 performances during the entire year.
We are so excited for our 2017-18 season! Please email the School Director, Lauren Joyner, if you have any further questions or concerns about our Performance companies.
