NCDF Performance for Local schoolgroups
Friday, November 6th, 2026 - Van Dyke Performance Space
On November 6, NCDF presents a free performance specifically for local school groups. The concert, featuring professional choreographers from across NC, has been arranged to present a variety of perspectives on dance, and designed to help young audiences find the awe, humor, curiosity, and inspiration in dance.
The concert is followed by a Q&A session, facilitating interaction between these students and local professional artists, and giving the students tools to watch, think about, and even create their own art.
Carolina Quirós:
“Regresar“, a piece that talks about migration. It is about the pain of leaving everything you know, the nostalgic moments of separation from loved ones, and the uncertain prospects that lie ahead in a new land. Highlights the transformative power of embarking on a journey, whether by choice or circumstance, and the profound impact it can have on individuals and their lives.
Maurice Watson:
Chasing the One = (1) is a kinetic celebration of groove, individuality, and collective rhythm. Rooted in Black American vernacular movement, the work fuses vernacular jazz, rhythm jazz, classical jazz, and hip hop into a vibrant, music-driven experience.
Set to the cool, smooth sounds of contemporary jazz, the choreography unfolds as a dynamic movement mosaic—duets, trios, and ensemble work that highlight both personal expression and communal connection. Each dancer radiates their own light without dimming another’s, creating a shared space where individuality and unity coexist.
At its core, the piece explores self-realization: the idea that the search for “the One” ends when you recognize that you are the One. Positioned at the metaphorical crossroads of Groove Avenue and Musicality Lane, this work invites audiences into a lived experience of rhythm, presence, and self-worth through movement.
Maitri Acharya:
Conversations in Rhythm brings Flamenco and Kathak together in a percussion-driven exploration of rhythm, movement, and musicality. Through dynamic collaboration and interaction, the dancers create a rhythmic dialogue between the two forms, highlighting their distinct traditions while discovering moments of connection and exchange
