The NC Dance Festival invites applications from North Carolina artists to be part of the 2025-26 season. There are multiple opportunities within this call to present, create, and share dance work, all speaking to NCDF’s aims to support the creation of new choreography and the presentation of high-quality repertory, build and strengthen relationships between dance artists within the state, and provide access to and education about modern and contemporary dance to audiences and students. We strive to provide experiences with dance that are up close and personal, for audiences, artists, and students. It is our vision that anyone, no matter who they are, can see themselves reflected in our programming.
Artists can apply to be considered for multiple opportunities, but are unlikely to be selected for more than one season activity. There is no application fee to apply for these opportunities.
NC Dance Festival Season performances
Goal: To showcase the range of choreographic perspectives and the quality of dance being created by NC dance artists, in fully produced performances. We are looking for dance work in contemporary dance genres that demonstrates a willingness to take artistic risks, provides unique perspectives on current art and culture, expresses a clear creative vision, and demonstrates strong performance quality. This season, we are especially interested in dance works that are “in conversation” or collaboration with other art forms or other artists.
Seeking: 4-7 artists/companies based in NC for Fall 2025 performance(s) in Greensboro
Artist in Residence 2025 Cohort
In an effort to nurture NC choreographers, build a network of dance artists, and support the development of high-quality dance work, the NC Dance Festival will select choreographers to be artists-in-residence in Dance Project’s Greensboro studio or Durham’s Barriskill Dance Theatre School’s studio during the 2025-26 season. 2 tracks are available: Embark (6 months; June 2025-Jan 2026) and Explore (1 year; June 2025-June 2026). Both tracks provide space, peer support, and professional development to dance artists who are looking to create new work, explore new territory, develop an artistic practice, and/or gain additional experience developing their craft.
Seeking: 1-2 early-career artists (Embark track) and 2-3 more established artists (Explore track)
Creative Collaboration exchange
Description: Artists will create and explore together, make connections across disciplines and geography, and collaborate through experimentation and performance in a short-term creation process. 3-4 artists from different disciplines will come together for a facilitated collaboration culminating in a performance and conversation with audience and artists at Charlotte’s Goodyear Arts venue.
