November 1st - Van Dyke Performance Space
NCDF Performance for Local Schoolgroups
On November 1, NCDF presents a free performance specifically for local school groups. The concert, featuring four professional choreographers from across NC, has been arranged to present a variety of perspectives on dance, and designed to help young audiences find the awe, humor, curiosity, and inspiration in dance.
The concert is followed by a Q&A session, facilitating interaction between these students and local professional artists, and giving the students tools to watch, think about, and even create their own art.
Baran Dance, directed by Audrey Baran, abstracts the “grind” of daily life through repetition, transforming the grind into the power of “playing it cool.”
“Arcturus” by Jill Nee is a powerful and physical group work, exploring the life and death of a star in the cosmos.
Seema Viswanath, Shuchita Sakwaya, Maitri Acharya present “Flamenkatha,” an interplay of two rhythmic and expressive dance forms, Flamenco from southern Spain and Kathak from northern India.
Matthew Rock’s “Ideas” blends theater and dance as it offers a window into the creative process– how a dance is made, from idea to performance.
