Last Chance to help us get… One Step Closer 

  • Our annual end of year fundraiser launched on Giving Tuesday Nov. 29 & runs thru December 31
  • Each week, we’ll focus on a different area in need of your support:
    • Accessibility and Outreach, Student Opportunities, Costumes, a Monthly Donor Boost, and General Support. 
    • Learn about just how far a gift from you can go towards all the exciting things we are working on, and the impact you can have on the communities we serve!
  • The goal for 2022 is $5000. This year we are also doing a Monthly Donor Boost push for 15 new donors of at least $5 per month. 
  • This year we are excited to have a $1000 donor matcher. Any funds raised up to $1000 will be matched by this donor!

Register for Spring 2023 now!

  • Spring semester will run 1.9-6.3 (20 weeks)
  • Registration is still open! Save your spot now!
    • December Savings Deal: Register for Spring 2023 youth classes and pay semester tuition in full by December 31 and both your Spring registration fee ($10) and Spring Showcase fee ($15) will be waived!
    • Register and make an installment payment before 1.9 and waive your reg. Fee!

  • Scholarships are available, apply here ASAP!
    • If you received a Fall 2022 scholarship, please be sure to resubmit your application for Spring 2023 before the first day of class!
    • Final scholarship due date is 2.27. Applications are processed on a rolling basis, first come first serve while funds remain.
  • Class Placements: Placements help parents register their students for the correct technique level in their age groups. Please check your email for your dancer’s class placement for Spring 2023!
  • Open House will run the first week of the semester for students to find the classes they love, sign up here

Adaptive Dance Class

  • This Spring, we are excited to launch our first full semester of our Adaptive Dance Class!
  • This is an inclusive creative movement dance class designed to offer our dancers with disabilities a chance to maximize their gifts in dance class. We invite their peers of all abilities to join. Class intended for ages 5-8.
  • Class includes participation in our Spring Showcase end of semester performance.

Featured New Teaching Staff- Spring 2023…

Janice Lancaster- Modern III/IV (13+)

As an independent choreographer, she has been selected for the NC Dance Festival, Asheville Fringe Arts Festival, Omi International Dance Residency, Robert Wilson’s Watermill Center annual gala, Hubbard St 2 National Choreographic Competition, Joyce Soho Presents Choreography Competition, Palm Desert Choreography Festival, Bessie Schönberg Choreographers Residency, and as an alternate  choreographer for New York Live Arts Fresh Tracks. She has received commissions from the  Algae Society/Coaction Lab, Music Carolina, Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art, Black  Mountain College Museum + Arts Center, Bard Music Festival, Lindsey Kelley Dance, and through co-founding VIA Dance Collaborative (NYC). From 2005 to 2019, Janice performed internationally with Shen Wei Dance Arts, teaching through SWDA’s intensives and NYC arts in-education program. Over the past few years, she has taught as a Visiting Assistant Professor at  Hollins University, Teacher-Scholar Postgraduate Fellow at Wake Forest University, and adjunct instructor at the University of the NC School of the Arts. She holds a Master of Fine Arts from Hollins University/American Dance Festival, a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of NC School of the Arts, and is a certified Hatha and Restorative yoga teacher.

Caitlyn Schrader- Contemporary Movement Lab (18+)

Caitlyn Schrader is a dance artist, educator, curator, choreographer, and filmmaker. A New York State native, she has made her way to Boston, Massachusetts, France, and Australia before arriving in North Carolina. She earned an MFA in Dance from the University of North Carolina Greensboro, a MS from the University of Rochester, and a BA from Hobart and William Smith Colleges. She has performed professionally with companies BIODANCE and EgoArt Inc., and for many other independent choreographers. As a mover and maker, she is steeped in the practice of release techniques and rooted in somatic perspectives. She strives to use dance as a strategy to construct and invite diverse experiences for both audiences and performers; interdisciplinary collaboration is central to her work. Her live and filmic works have been presented widely across the Northeast, the South, and abroad in Ireland. Caitlyn is passionate about providing platforms for other artists to present, meet, and collaborate. In 2019, she established Barn Dance Project (BDP), purposed to present professional, high quality, accessible dance works in unconventional spaces and to aid in the art revitalization for the community in which she grew up. Caitlyn has taught extensively within private and public institutions in New York, Massachusetts, North Carolina, and Southern France for professional dancers and non-dancers alike.

The North Carolina Dance Festival (NCDF)

  • NCDF Artist in Residence Showing Jan 21, 7pm | Studio 323 | Save the Date!
    • Join our “Embark” Artists in Residence Rae Cozart and Caitlyn Schrader, along with other 2022 Artists in Residence, as they share what they have been working on since July! This free informal showing features dance film and live performance and an opportunity to ask questions and discuss dance with the choreographers. 
  • The NC Dance Festival, a production of the Dance Project, is an annual touring showcase of modern and contemporary choreography by NC artists. The Festival establishes a network of venues for professional regional choreography and performance, expanding accessibility of dance throughout the state while raising the profile of North Carolina’s own artists.

Payment Schedule & Information- Fall

  • Fall classes can be paid in full or in 4 installments
    • Installment schedule: 8/29, 10/1, 11/1, 12/1
  • Autopay will run on 9/1, 10/3, 11/1, 12/1
  • Late account communication:
    • Late fees are added after the 10th of the month
    • Notification of late payment will be sent on the 11th via email

    • Any student with an account unpaid by the 20th will be unable to participate

  • Any payments made after the 10th will incur a $10 late fee
  • Any student with an account unpaid by the 20th will be unable to participate
  • Initial class payments are due by the first class on 1/9
    • Current Fall 22 students who register for Spring 23’ will see the first installment post on Dec. 15th after the Fall 22 Dec 1st final autodraft. Payment can be made manually from 12.15-1.9 to waive the returning reg. fee.
  • Spring classes can be paid in full or in 5 installments
    • Installment schedule: 1/9, 2/1, 3/1, 4/3, 5/1 
  • Autopay will run on 1/9, 2/1, 3/1, 4/3, 5/1 
    • Autopay participants who register after a draft date will need to manually pay before the 10th of the month to avoid a late fee
  • We do not pro-rate tuition. Students do have the option to make up a class in a comparable class. If you need to make up a class please contact Magalli magalli@danceproject.org 
  • Parents are fiscally responsible for the cost of the full semester after 3 classes have been attended, regardless of attendance from that point on

COVID Guidelines

  • All Dance Project classes, office space, check-in areas, and events will require a mask. This includes students, staff, parents, and audience members.
    • Thank you so much for your support in helping keep your Dance Project family and our community safe. We will continue to monitor the community trends and keep you updated as to if/when our class requirements may change.

Greensboro Cultural Center

  • All Dance Project classes, unless otherwise noted, occur on the 3rd floor of the Greensboro Cultural Center 200 N Davie St, Greensboro, NC 27401

Parking

  • Parking is recommended in the Church St Parking Deck. First hour free. You can validate your parking at the Greensboro Central Library. Parking is free if leaving after 7pm on weekdays, free on weekends. Otherwise, $1/hr.
  • During Tanger Center events, the Church Street parking deck will be shared.
    • Anyone displaying the attached voucher in either print or digital form will be exempted from the posted fee. This voucher is valid only at the Church Street Parking Deck after 5pm Monday-Friday, and anytime on the weekend. Voucher Here 
    • Visitors who do not have the voucher, but who indicate to the attendant upon entry that their visit is for something other than attendance at a Tanger Center event, will have the $10 fee waived.
    • These waivers apply only to the $10 Special Event fee being implemented before Tanger Center events

Adult Students

Spring 2023 Class passes available now!

  • Get your class pass and save big on classes next semester! There are options for new and returning students tailored to how you want to take the class:
    • Unlimited All: Any and all adult drop-in classes all semester long
    • All-In: 1 class of your choice all semester long
    • New Student 30-day Unlimited: new students get unlimited access for 1 month
    • 10 Class Pass: 10 classes of your choice  *available Jan. 1*
    • Drop-In: take your time once class at time $15 a class

*New Adult Class* Contemporary Movement Lab (18+) with Caitlyn Schrader

  • Spring Semester, Saturdays 10:30-12:00pm in Studio 323
  • Join Dance Project for an 18+ drop-in-only intermediate/advanced contemporary dance class intended for dance professionals and collegiate level dancers. Class is based in Safety Release Technique yet also integrates various other release-based contemporary techniques and supportive methodologies through a somatic approach.

Adult Performance Company 

Adult Performance Company will return for the Spring 2023 semester, beginning in January.

  • What is Adult Performance Company? 
    • Dance Project’s Adult Performance Company (18+) is an opportunity for adult dancers to learn, create, and perform choreography in the community, and participate in many other opportunities, such as attending dance events and workshops! Dancers enroll in a weekly class which serves as their rehearsal time and work with a choreographer for the year. Adult Performance Company is open to all!  No audition is required. Dancers are required to take at least 1 weekly dance technique class in addition to APC rehearsal time, in any dance style.
    • Choreographer Carrie Plew will lead APC for Spring 2023.

      • Carrie is a current Artist in Residence with Dance Project/NCDF and a teaching staff member at Dance Project!
      • Carrie is currently on the path to certification in Laban Movement Analysis through the Laban/Bartenieff Institute for Movement Studies. Carrie has created, performed, and presented on a variety of stages in NC and NYC. NC Dance credits include John Gamble Dance Theater, Jan Van Dyke Dance Group, Horn in the West, X Factor, and Centennial Station Dinner Theater.  NY Dance credits include Maverick Dance Experience, INSPIRIT (Rehearsal Director and Company member), Malleable Dance Theater, and Sydnie L Mosley Dances.
      • Carrie recently presented an evening-length work “Breathe, Flow, Forward, Grow” based in Laban Movement Analysis and Bartenieff Fundamentals as a part of her combined residency with NCDF and the Steven D. Hyers Theatre. More about this project here.
