Reminder- DP Closed After NCDF 10.9

  • Dance Project offices closed and no Dance Project classes Monday, 10.9 after NCDF

The North Carolina Dance Festival (NCDF)

  • NC Dance Festival Fall 2023 performances & events have begun!
    • SPECIAL EVENTS: 10.6-10.7 NCDF at GOODYEAR ARTS (Charlotte) *this weekend!*
    • Featuring professional NC choreographers: Joy Davis & Eric Mullis, Lee Edwards, Courtney White & Carol Finley,  and ShaLeigh Dance Works
    • 10.27 FREE PERFORMANCE FOR SCHOOL GROUPS (VDPS, Greensboro)
      • Renay Aumiller, Gerri Houlihan, Mandi Moore, and Seema Viswanath will present a performance and Q&A for school groups.
    • 11.11 CREATIVE COLLABORATION EXCHANGE (The Artist Bloc, Greensboro)
      • James Daniels, Damien Mathis, Seema Viswanath, and Anna Williams collaborate for 1 day in mixed art forms, culminating in a performance. Co-presented with TAB Arts Center.
  • What is NCDF? The NC Dance Festival, a production of the Dance Project, is an annual touring showcase of modern and contemporary choreography by NC artists. The Festival establishes a network of venues for professional regional choreography and performance, expanding accessibility of dance throughout the state while raising the profile of North Carolina’s own artists.

Class Highlights:

  • Absolute Beginner Ballet (18+)
    • Join us for an 18+ ballet class designed for adults new to dance or returning to dance! This class is open to all levels and experience. Fridays 7:00-8:00pm with Christina Motley and available for drop in all Fall!
  • Pilates for Dances (13+)
    • Join us for this new class taught by Pilates instructor and dancer Annie Young! Build strength and flexibility to support movement. This class is open to all levels and experience, and for dancers and “non-dancers” alike. Saturdays 9:30am-10:30am and available for drop in all Fall!

Parkinson’s Dance Class has begun!

  • Session Length: October 3 – December 12 *10 Weeks* (No class will be held on November 21st – Dance Project will be closed for Spring Break)
  • When: Tuesdays 9:30am – 10:30am 
  • Where: Van Dyke Performance Space, 1st Floor of Greensboro Cultural Center in Downtown (200 N. Davie St., Greensboro, NC 27401)
    • Exception for October 3 & October 17– Studio 323 at Dance Project, 3rd floor of Greensboro Cultural Center in Downtown (200 N. Davie St., Greensboro, NC 27401) *accessible by elevator or stairs*
  • Who: People of any age or ability, with or without Parkinson’s (family members, loved ones, & caretakers invited!)
  • About this Class: Dance Project’s free program allows individuals with Parkinson’s or limited mobility to use dance as therapy. This class incorporates physical exercise, cognitive tasks, sensory experience, emotional expression, and social interaction. As a multidimensional activity, dance has the potential to address many of the challenges faced by persons with Parkinson’s or limited mobility. Instructor: Davida Reid. This program is supported by a community grant from the Parkinson’s Foundation and with support from Cone Health Medical Group.

Fall Payment Schedule & Information

● We accept Cash, Check, or Credit Card payments for youth tuition.

○ Credit card payments are made in the class portal and incur a 3% surcharge 

● Any payments made after the 10th will incur a $10 late fee 

● Any student with an account unpaid by the 20th will be unable to participate 

● Initial class payments are due by the first class on 9/5 

● Fall classes can be paid in full or in 4 installments 

○ Installment schedule: 9/5, 10/1, 11/1, 12/1

● Autopay will run on 9/5, 10/2, 11/6, 12/1

○ Autopay participants who register after a draft date will need to manually pay before the 10th of the month to avoid a late fee 

● We do not pro-rate tuition. Students do have the option to make up a class in a comparable class. If you need to make up a class please contact Magalli magalli@danceproject.org 

● Parents are fiscally responsible for the cost of the full semester after 3 classes have been attended, regardless of attendance from that point on

Greensboro Cultural Center

  • All Dance Project classes, unless otherwise noted, occur on the 3rd floor of the Greensboro Cultural Center (200 N Davie St, Greensboro, NC 27401)
  • We currently make use of Studios 323, 305, and 317. Please note on our class schedule which studio your dancer’s class/camp occurs in. 
  • Our office is located in Suite 321. Please visit us in office or call/email magalli@danceproject.org (336)370-6776 to set up a time to meet, ask questions, or make a cash/check payment. Please note office staff hours may vary. 

Parking

  • Parking is recommended in the Church St Parking Deck. First hour free. You can validate your parking at the Greensboro Central Library. Parking is free if leaving after 7pm on weekdays, free on weekends. Otherwise, $1/hr.
  • During Tanger Center events, the Church Street parking deck is shared with Tanger patrons.
    • Anyone displaying the attached voucher in either print or digital form will be exempted from the posted Tanger Center parking fee. This voucher is valid only at the Church Street Parking Deck after 5pm Monday-Friday, and anytime on the weekend. Voucher Here 
    • Visitors who do not have the voucher, but who indicate to the attendant upon entry that their visit is for something other than attendance at a Tanger Center event, will have the $10 fee waived.
    • These waivers apply only to the $10 Special Event fee being implemented before Tanger Center events

Drop In Student Reminders

Fall 2023 Multi-Class Passes Still Available & Single Class TIckets Still on Sale!

  • Fall Semester runs 9.5-12.16 (14 weeks)
    • Drop In Rate: $15
    • 10 Class Pass: $135
      • Any 10 classes of your choosing, expires after session ends. Master classes excluded.
    • UNLIMITED ALL Class Pass: $300
      • Unlimited classes of your choosing all 14 weeks of the Fall semester. Master classes excluded.
    • Adult Performance Company (APC): $120 OR included in UNLIMITED ALL Class Pass
      • 14 weeks of rehearsals and performance opportunities. Register via Class Portal- pay in full or install. No audition required, please contact magalli@danceproject.org for further details. Register by 10.2 *last chance!*

  • If you have any questions in regards to level/class placement or specific class recommendations, please reach out to magalli@danceproject.org

Waiver

  • Please be sure to fill out the waiver attached to your ticket/pass receipt before your first class with Dance Project, or you may be asked to fill out a paper copy of our waiver before class. A waiver is required for participation in classes at Dance Project.

Adult Performance Company

    • Dance Project’s Adult Performance Company (18+) is an opportunity for adult dancers to learn, create, and perform choreography in the community, and participate in many other opportunities, such as attending dance events and workshops! Dancers meet for a weekly class which serves as their rehearsal time and work with a choreographer for the year. Adult Performance Company is open to all!  No audition is required. Dancers are required to take at least 1 weekly dance technique class in addition to APC rehearsal time, in any dance style. Performance Company is only offered in Fall & Spring.

Performance Company Reminders

  • What is Performance Company? Performance Companies are an opportunity for you/your dancer to learn and perform choreography in the community for the Fall 2023-Spring 2024 year, and participate in many other fun and exciting dance events and workshops! Dancers enroll in a weekly class which serves as their rehearsal time each week + 1 other technique class in any style. Register by 10.2 *last chance!*
  • Who can join?
    • Mini Performance Company (5-7), Junior Performance Company (8-12), Teen Performance Company (13-18), and Adult Performance Company (18+) are open to all!
      • No audition required. Dancers are required to be enrolled in at least 1 dance technique class in addition to any Performance Co. rehearsal time. Rise Pre-Professional Company is audition/invitation only for advanced dancers and requires enrollment in at least 2 dance technique classes in addition to Rise rehearsal time. 
    • Contract acceptance and rehearsal/performance commitment is required for participation in any Performance Co. group. 
  • When will Performance Companies rehearse Fall 2023-Spring 2024? 
    • This upcoming season’s rehearsal times are the following: MPC Tuesdays 4:00-4:45pm, JPC Wednesdays 5:00-6:00pm, TPC Tuesdays 7:30-8:30pm, Rise Thursdays 7:30-8:30pm, APC Thursdays 7:45-9:00pm. Full schedule here

Reminders for ALL Performance Co: 

  • Please stay tuned for updates throughout the year on the Performance Company Band.
  • Performance Co. Checks In Beginning Next Week! (10.10-10.12)
    • We want to take the time to check in with our dancers in our performance companies to see how the semester is going so far and find out any goals our dancers are working towards, and find out how we can best support these goals.
    • Please fill out the following Performance Co. Fall 23 Check In Google Form here by October 10.
    • Mini, Junior, Teen, Rise Performance Companies: will have individual brief conservations during regular rehearsal time 10.10-10.12 with admin staff (Lauren & Magalli).

  • We invite our Teen Performance Co. dancers and families to join us for a group trip to this film screening (most relevant ages 12+) this week as a part of our Wideman Davis’s Dance NCDF residency!
    • THIS Saturday, Sept 30: Film Screening + Conversation
    • 4-5:30pm, Greensboro Cultural Center, African American Atelier Gallery
      • Tickets: $10 students/$15 general
      • Get tickets here
      • Join us for a public screening of the award-winning film, “We Dance,” followed by an interactive, community conversation with the artists of Wideman Davis Dance, on the themes of family, legacy, migration, memory, and more.
  • Teen Performance Co. Summer 2023 Guest Piece- with Choreographer Bre Forbes!
    • Please stay tuned for dates for TPC Guest Piece Fall 23 extra rehearsals.
    • Bre Forbes, former NCDF artist and current Dance Project board member is this year’s Teen Performance Co. guest artist! 
    • Bre has set a hip-hop influenced piece of choreography that is open to all new and returning TPC dancers to join. This piece will be performed throughout the 2023-2024 season and requires commitment to the full performance company year. 

Rise Reminders:

  • Congratulations to our 23-24 Rise Dancers and Rise Apprentices! We are so proud of your hard work in this year’s audition and we are excited for a new year of Rise Performance Company!
  • Please stay tuned for dates for Rise Guest Piece Fall 23 extra rehearsals.
